Holiday Table Setting Ideas & Crafts: Get Creative with items you have in-house!

This holiday season have some fun with your table and home décor by using materials you already have in-house or around the house!

•Decorate with pine cones (from the pine trees in your yard).  If you don’t happen to have any pine trees on your property or near where you live, most hobby shops and general stores sell these wonderful holiday accents.  Mix and match these pine cones on a decorative plate or in a basket with some pretty holiday ornaments.  Showcase them with holiday candles.

•Create a holiday scene on a mantle or credenza with a snowman and some reindeer mixed with pretty holiday candles in red and white!

•Decorate using accents of silver,  gold & mirrors!  Anything that shimmers and glitters makes a wonderful holiday ambiance.

Enjoy the Season!

Express Yourself with Arts & Crafts!

Getting creative with arts and crafts is a fantastic way to express yourself.   Not only is it fulfilling, it can give you a wonderful sense of accomplishment, boost self-esteem, and unless a more playful side of you.

Spring  and the Easter and Passover holidays are a great time to share and give thanks with those you love.  Create a memorable homemade gift with love to bring to your holiday celebration or to use as a unique table centerpiece.

One fantastic way to create that special gift or centerpiece is to get creative painting terracotta pots.

Purchase a terracotta pot at your favorite gardening or thrift shop.  Select a size of your choosing, then gather your favorite spring colors in paints.  Perhaps a hot pink, sunny yellow, lime green, sky blue and orange sorbet.

Then pull out that painting brush and get creative!

Create spontaneously or you might want to draw your design on paper first.

Choose a base color for your terracotta pot.  Paint it.  Then, take a pencil and draw your design onto the painted pot.  Later, fill in the design with colors of your choosing.

Once the paint has dried, you can fill the pot with such items as:

A pretty plant

Hershey’s kisses

Jelly Beans & chocolate Easter eggs

Cookies or muffins wrapped in decorative wrap

I still have a painted terracotta pot that I was given years ago as a gift (with chocolate chip cookies inside).

I use it in my office to hold telephone books and other sundry items.

Getting creative with terracotta pots doesn’t have to just be reserved for spring either.   Make painted gifts and centerpieces with terracotta pots any time of year or for any holiday.

It’s a great activity to do alone and/or with family and friends.

Spread some smiles & have a simply delicious Easter and Passover!

The Thanksgiving Table

SimplyDeliciousLiving.tv Thanksgiving Table

Some would consider the “presentation” of a meal almost as important as the taste of the meal itself!  Think about it.  When you go out to dinner, whether it be for an enjoyable meal out or a special occasion, the dining memories created in a beautiful environment — when you dine on attractive plates, with music accompaniment, candlelight and other meal enhancing elements —  the more memorable the meal.

Throughout the Thanksgiving season, there are so many ways to set the table.   Try decorating the table with autumn colors such as beige, gold, red, burgundy, green and various shades in between. Miniature pumpkins and colorful Fall vegetables (and squash such as acorn, ambercup, autumn, banana, buttercup, carnival or other) also look great on the table.  You can also try filling a wicker basket with the vegetables and/or some pine cones, decorative ornaments and colorful ribbon.  Get creative! Why not make it a family project with your partner and children?  This is your masterpiece to share with family and friends.

Setting a pretty table doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank either.  For example, pictured above, I visited a local thrift store and picked up some pretty cream colored plates ($1.00 each) and the shimmering star basket ($2.00).  The plates were originally from World Market and I got quite a bargain.  The leaf plates I found at Ross ($1.00 each).  I found the topaz colored wine glass on sale at Pier One ($3.00 each!) and the green water goblet I found at my local 99 cent store ($1.00 each).  At Jo-Ann’s I picked up a bag of pretty autumn colored leaves (99 cents a bag) and found a pretty decorative item (99 cents per item),  I could use as a napkin holder.  The great thing about all these items is that I can mix and match them with other dishes all year long!

Shabby Chic Table Setting Ideas!

I was having four girlfriends over for lunch and a scrapbooking session recently,  and wanted to create a FUN setting with a look that was both feminine and special.

Light bulb!

What about a shabby chic table?!!!  That sent me on a quest looking for the right dishes to grace the table.  I love to go to garage sales, Goodwill stores, antique hunting…you name it, I love a good bargain.  Well, a local garage sale DELIVERED!

Royal Dalton China

I found some PERFECT plates adorned with pink roses for $1.00 each (Royal Dalton bone china!!), and a pretty tiered cake display stand ($3.00 - the scones will look great on this!).

Pink Goblets

Then, I took a jaunt to the new local Goodwill store in Thousand Oaks that opened up recently  (Yes! Sometimes they have great dishes and glassware gifted from old estates).  I found the cutest light pink goblets (for a $1.00 each).

When I got home, I pulled out a pretty table cloth (thank you Grandma!) out of the credenza.  I also mixed together some other odds and ends found at various locations around my living and dining room to compliment the table.  The last step – I filled some pretty silver and china cups with roses from the garden…et Voilà! A table masterpiece for $11.00.  The good news is, I can mix and match the pieces with others I have to form a variety of new settings.  How simply delicious living it is!
